School Based Education Projects - The Toilet Door Project

A Fresh Modern Approach Addressing an Age Old Issue

The Toilet Door Project is an innovative awareness project based on "convenience advertising". The project involved designing messages aimed towards high school students, educating and empowering adolescents with the assurance that it is OK to reach out for support if one is a victim of abuse or witnesses a friend or family member experiencing abuse. The challenge was to come up with a concept that would be age-appropriate and engage that age group. The JTAFV Young Division designed a message using the facebook format. The message is expressed through a facebook discussion between classmates who express concern when their friend exhibits worryingbehaviors. The poster clearly states Abuse is Never OK and Some Secrets Should Never be Secret. An underlying message of the project is everybody has the right to feel and be safe.

The Toilet Door Project is now complete and the posters have been placed in the high school toilet blocks of our Melbourne Jewish Day Schools. JTAFV members will visit each school to discuss healthy relationships stressing that abuse in any form is not acceptable.

Concurrently we are continuing and increasing our interaction with our schools focusing on preventative education programs.
